How Labor Day tennis differs from the US Open

Similarities

Both Played around Labor Day

Men’s Women’s and Mixed Doubles

Winners get their names in the paper

Both have seeds

Both played on lots of courts

Parking can be a problem

Differences

At the  Open, no one wonders who they’ll get for a partner next year

If it rains, the US Open doesn’t go indoors and play pro sets

No one has logos on their shirts or cares what you are wearing

Roosters!

No pesky qualification rules, one question only…do you or did you live here?

No dogs mixing it up

No ranking necessary…you can buy your racquet that day

No line judges  except for everyone in the crowd

No one handing out zucchinis or sticking them in your car while you are not looking

Every court has a different surface

Snap your Achilles?  One of the players will fix you up so you don’t have to leave.

Free drinks!

A star beside your name is not necessarily a good thing

You don’t have to bribe someone to move to a closer seat.

A 20 something can wind up playing against a 70 year old, and lose.

The Pizza place has its best week of the year.

Two day rest between matches? How about 2 minutes.

And best of all……

It is a time to see friends and have a few laughs.

Please give to keep the magic going.
